Ierapetra Archaeological Collection

 

   This museum is housed in the Commercial Ottoman School building. It was founded at the end of the 19th century and exhibits various items dating from the Minoan, the Geometric, the Archaic, the Classical (and Hellenistic) and the Roman period. The town of Ierapetra is lying on the southern coast of Crete, 35 kilometres south of Agios Nikolaos.

The Sitia Museum

 

   Founded in 1984 and located in the large town of Sitia the museum is housing the most important finds excavated in eastern Crete. In the modern exhibitions halls visitors will admire items dating from the Minoan, Hellenistic and Geometric periods.

The Archaeological Museum of Agios Nikolaos

 

  The museum is located on Paleologou Street in Agios Nikolaos and was founded in 1970 in the aim to exhibit the many archaeological finds that have been excavated from eastern Crete, finds which were housed in the Museum of Heraklion. Since then, this interesting museum is housing a rich collection of various items found in the surrounding and area dating from the Minoan Period to the Roman.

The Zakros Archaeological Site

 

   The smallest of the four Minoan palaces, Zakros is strategically located at the East shore of Crete. Many vessels coming from the East probably found it more convenient to unload their cargo at Zakro, than trying to sail around the ever-windy cape Sideros at the north-eastern tip of Crete.
