Overview
One of the most charming places to stay in Syros is the Lila Guesthouse. The mid-19th century house, situated in a quiet part of Ermoupolis, a few blocks from the seafront, used to be the island's French consulate. This town is not a traditional location in the Cyclades. It has a bit of an Italian / French atmosphere, owing to the strong historical presence of the Roman Catholic community on the island. So does Guesthouse Lila.
In a charming old-meets-contemporary theme, the house is renovated, following most of its original layout but also incorporating a modern aspect. There are two floors for rooms and suites. The rooms are situated on the ground floor and open to the (quiet) street. They all have beautifully high ceilings and most have mezzanine beds, leaving additional seating space below, and are decorated in an elegant mix of old and modern.
You're going to sleep in new, comfortable beds, but hang your clothes in traditional, well-preserved wardrobes. On the first floor are huge suites, one of which has a sea view. There's a homely café / waiting room on the ground floor where we serve our homemade breakfast. Typically, the big doors to the car-free street are wide open, so that you still feel part of the life that slowly passes, even though you sit inside.
