The island of Syros, situated in the Aegean Sea, is proud of its capital, Ermoupolis, the ancient capital of the Cyclades Prefecture and now the seat of the South Aegean Region. Ermoupolis, an exceptional city with a stately theme, was built by island refugees during the Greek Revolution against the Ottoman Empire.
