History
The Name:
The Protessilaos Hotel first opened its doors in the summer of 1979, under the name Nefeli. Today’s name was suggested in 1982, when a guest, Mr.Pavlos Lazaridis (Director of the local archaeological excavations) proposed the name "Protessilaos".
Despite the difficulty of the word, the clients adopted the name with pleasure due to its unique character.
But who was Protessilaos?
He was a hero of the mythological Trojan cycle, son of Ifilcus, King of Fylaki in Thessalia. He was the first who jumped out of the ships during the Trojan war, even though he knew that he would die from Hector's arrow. As he was a newlywed, the gods took pity on his wife Laodamia, and they allowed Protessilaos to come back to life from Hades for a little while. Races have been taking place in Fylaki in his honour ever since.
