Location

Samos is a fertile island with an intricate coastline, and one of the cradles of Greek civilization, being the birthplace of philosophers such as Epicurus and Pythagoras.

The island lies very close to what is now the Turkish coast, where Greek civilization and culture flourished in the pre-classical era. The main city and port of the island is Vathy, lies over the natural amphitheatric gulf which shares its name with the city. Samos has many nice beaches, the best of which are found in the southwestern part of the island with crystal-clear blue water such as Psili Ammos, Marathokambos.

Samos is the birthplace of the worldwide famous Samian Wine (Moscato Vin Doux) known for its unique and rare sweet flavor, acclaimed by critics as one of the best wines in the world.
