Kythnos  island, or Thermia, is located between Kea and Serifos, 52 nautical miles from the port of Piraeus – a 3 hour voyage – and from the port of Lavrio only 2 hours away. It covers 99 km2 and it is inhabited by approximately 1.500 people. It is likely that the island was named after its founder, Kythnos, although it is not certain that he actually existed.
